Many have argued that the coming of Robots or AI technology is a greater threat to the existence of mankind and to livelihoods. Since adoption, most farm workers like any other industry such as motor industry, accounting and finance as well as retail have all lost their work to these advanced technological advancements. In a statement by the World Economic Forum (WEF), about 85 million jobs will be lost to AI technology by 2025 in the USA only.

This has proved to be a greater threat to livelihoods but the business sector seems to think otherwise and have endorsed the use of AI technology in business for better efficiencies. In the agricultural sector particularly, it is remarkable that even small scale subsistence farmers have also started using the technology for their everyday farming practices. The most commonly used technology are the drones which most have argued are good for surveillance and in most cases have been used for spraying chemicals etc.

The technology has been known to be Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or Drones and has been associated by its wide application in agriculture for crop field scanning. The system makes use of image sensors as well as GPS for mapping. It has also been used for livestock monitoring providing most farmers with live aerial view and travel free monitoring of the fields.

Since adoption there has been an increase in the demand and use of the technology. According to Allied Market Research, the current global commercial drones market in 2020 was at US$2.72billion and is estimated to be over US$21.69billion by 2030.
