In 1975, New Holland launched a groundbreaking innovation that would redefine modern harvesting—the Twin Rotor™ combine harvester. Fifty years later, that same pioneering spirit continues to drive excellence in performance, efficiency, and crop quality.
As New Holland celebrates five decades of Twin Rotor technology, the company marks this milestone with a refreshed lineup of CR Series harvesters, designed to deliver unmatched grain and straw quality, fuel efficiency, and harvesting power.
South Africa’s CR Lineup: Power Meets Precision
In Southern Africa, New Holland’s current CR series includes:
- CR9.90 – 390kW engine, 22” rotors, and a 6.5m² cleaning area
- CR7.90 – 309kW engine, 17” rotors, and a 5.4m² cleaning area
- CR6.80 – 230kW engine, 17” rotors, and a 5.4m² cleaning area
These machines combine robust design with the latest harvesting innovations to meet the evolving needs of today’s grain producers.
Feeding Innovation: Dynamic Feed Roll and TwinPitch Rotor
A standout feature of the CR Series is the Dynamic Feed Roll (DFR) system. This innovation delivers a 5.2kW power saving and boosts capacity by up to 10% by ensuring a consistent crop flow into the rotors. DFR supports early morning and late evening harvesting by effectively processing wet and green material with stable performance.
Coupled with the TwinPitch Rotor™ system, the CR combines provide a gentle yet effective threshing action. The rotors’ high-pitch beaters and uniquely shaped concaves offer a crop-on-crop threshing mechanism that minimizes damage while maximizing output—especially beneficial in high-yield conditions.
The rotor length of 2.64 meters ensures the crop remains inside the machine for an optimal time, enhancing straw quality while optimizing fuel consumption through Dynamic Flow Control.
Unrivaled Grain Quality with Opti-Clean and Opti-Fan
Clean grain samples are a hallmark of the CR Series. The Opti-Clean system separates grain from debris with precision, maintaining performance even when the machine operates on slopes of up to 17°. This ensures productivity across various terrains.
The Opti-Fan technology further refines performance by automatically adjusting fan speeds during uphill or downhill operation, compensating for gravity’s effect on crop flow and ensuring consistent results.

The RotoThresh Advantage
The RotoThresh rethreshing system improves throughput and protects grain integrity. By conducting rethreshing outside the main rotor area and returning processed material to the cleaning system (not the threshing system), it prevents rotor overload and reduces damage to grains.
Operator Comfort with Intuitive Control
Comfort and control go hand in hand in the CR’s modern cab design. With an IntelliView IV touchscreen monitor, operators get real-time data and can adjust machine settings with ease. The ergonomic layout ensures quick, intuitive control over every function—enhancing productivity while reducing fatigue.
Looking Ahead: The Next-Gen CR10 on the Horizon
As part of its ongoing evolution, New Holland Southern Africa is preparing to introduce the Next-Generation CR10 Combine Harvester—a model set to redefine the future of large-scale grain harvesting. Featuring cutting-edge technology and enhanced cost-efficiency, the CR10 aims to further reduce operational costs and raise profitability for commercial grain producers.
Stay tuned for the unveiling of this next leap in harvesting innovation.
A Legacy Built for the Future
From its first Twin Rotor combine in 1975 to today’s intelligent, high-capacity harvesters, New Holland has spent five decades setting the benchmark in harvesting performance. As the demands of agriculture grow, its machines continue to empower farmers with the tools to harvest faster, cleaner, and more efficiently.
Here’s to 50 years of innovation—and many more to come.
